A federal judge has set a trial date for Qualcomm’s lawsuit against Apple: April 15th, 2019. The San Diego Union-Tribune says that both sides have been unable to reach a settlement in the case in which Qualcomm accused Apple of sharing proprietary code with rival chipmaker Intel.

According to the Union-Tribune, Apple’s lawyers have dismissed the possibility of a settlement between the two companies that would avert a trial. Qualcomm had hoped to go to court in February, but US District Judge Gonzalo Curiel set the April date, noting the complexity of the situation, and to “accommodate the court’s schedule.”

I really wasn’t sure what to expect from A Star is Born. It’s been getting so much buzz, and yet its trailer made made the movie look so melodramatic, saccharine, twee, overwrought, and manically romantic. And it is all those things. But it’s also just so impossibly earnest. It loves its characters, its music, its emotions, and it wants you to love them too.

And somehow it works. The film looks like a glossy, big-budget production, but it so often has the interests and sensibilities of a film with 1/10th the budget. There’s a lot to unpack in the movie, but the thing I’m most fascinated by his how committed it is to bringing a low-budget, indie vibe to a big and very-shiny screen.

Facebook’s report on George Soros attempts to tie him to an anti-Facebook coalition

Buzzfeed News obtained a copy of the report that Facebook commissioned from consulting firm Definers Public Affairs, which attempts to link efforts by the “Freedom from Facebook” campaign to liberal philanthropist George Soros.

The May 2018 report is one of at least two files that the consulting firm produced for Facebook. It attempts to make the case that Soros funded the coalition through three very broad points. First, it highlights a “coalition of progressive groups” that make up the “Freedom from Facebook” campaign, and that it has a six-figure ad budget to advance its message. Judge sets trial date for Qualcomm’s lawsuit against Apple

A federal judge has set a trial date for Qualcomm’s lawsuit against Apple: April 15th, 2019. The San Diego Union-Tribune says that both sides have been unable to reach a settlement in the case in which Qualcomm accused Apple of sharing proprietary code with rival chipmaker Intel.

According to the Union-Tribune, Apple’s lawyers have dismissed the possibility of a settlement between the two companies that would avert a trial. Qualcomm had hoped to go to court in February, but US District Judge Gonzalo Curiel set the April date, noting the complexity of the situation, and to “accommodate the court’s schedule.”

The lawsuit is the latest dustup between Qualcomm and Apple, which began in January 2017 when Apple sued the chipmaker over...

Fox and National Geographic are investigating misconduct claims against Neil deGrasse Tyson

Fox and National Geographic say that they have launched investigations into claims made against astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson after two women came forward with allegations that he made inappropriate sexual advances towards them.

deGrasse Tyson hosts the Fox and National Geographic reboot of the classic Carl Sagan documentary series, which first premiered in 2014. Earlier this summer, Fox renewed the series for a second season, Possible Worlds, which will premiere in 2019.

11 new trailers you should watch this week

I really wasn’t sure what to expect from A Star is Born. It’s been getting so much buzz, and yet its trailer made made the movie look so melodramatic, saccharine, twee, overwrought, and manically romantic. And it is all those things. But it’s also just so impossibly earnest. It loves its characters, its music, its emotions, and it wants you to love them too.

And somehow it works. The film looks like a glossy, big-budget production, but it so often has the interests and sensibilities of a film with 1/10th the budget. There’s a lot to unpack in the movie, but the thing I’m most fascinated by his how committed it is to bringing a low-budget, indie vibe to a big and very-shiny screen.

There has been some interesting reads out this year that I’ve added to my to-read list: Ronan Farrow’s War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence, as well as Paul Scharre’s Army of None: Autonomous Weapons and the Future of War that are both quite good.

Uber, the premier name in ride-hailing apps, wants to be known as the go-to destination for all on-demand transportation needs, and so its latest efforts have naturally gravitated toward growing its share of the booming electric scooter rental business. The company seems to have decided that its best path for acquiring a leadership position in this market is to literally acquire the leaders. Millie Bobby Brown Sends Out An SOS In Leaked Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Footage

Though we’re still waiting for the next proper trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Tokyo Comic-Con did offer a short tease of the spectacle to come in a clip that puts the spotlight on Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.

Before the phenomenal first trailer for the Big G’s next cinematic outing premiered earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, you may recall that Legendary Pictures shared a quick snippet from a scene in which the young Madison Russell attempts to contact the secret government agency known as Monarch. This new teaser starts off in a similar vein, but alternates its footage of Brown with ominous glimpses of the mayhem unfolding elsewhere. Among the excerpts are scenes of crowds running through streets, fighter jets flying over an imperiled Washington, D.C., and the shadow of Rodan flying over a community and leaving devastation in its wake.

The foreboding footage ends with the message, “FULL TRAILER COMING SOON,” which we’re now being told is happening next week, despite this tweet claiming otherwise.

The sequel to 2014’s Godzilla will see the famed lizard crossing paths with Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah – three creatures whom we’ve only had partially obscured glimpses of so far, and honestly, the marketing team might do well to save the full reveals for the actual movie. Either way, while this colossal trio will serve as the focus of King of the Monsters, the studio looks to have longer-term plans in mind for Madison, with Brown’s character set to return for Godzilla vs. Kong.

Madison’s significance in the MonsterVerse saga has already been the subject of a little fan speculation, but while the impending trailer may offer a few further insights on what role she plays in the fight between giants, Godzilla: King of the Monsters will have the final say when the film hits theaters on May 31st, 2019.

Avengers 4 Trailer Reportedly Coming Monday, Captain Marvel On Wednesday

Remember we told you a few hours ago that this coming week was going to be an unforgettable one for Marvel fans? Well, we now have some new information that explains exactly why.

The folks over at Screen Geek are reporting tonight that their sources have told them the House of Ideas is getting set to break the internet with a double whammy that’ll send fans into a frenzy. According to the outlet, the first Avengers 4 trailer will be with us on Monday, which we already kind of assumed. They say it’s likely that it’ll premiere during Monday Night Football but couldn’t confirm the exact time.

That’s not all, though, as they’re also telling us that Kevin Feige and co. plan on dropping a new Captain Marvel trailer, which would arrive during Good Morning America on Wednesday. Now, they do note that this plan could change, and the previews may swap spots. But for the moment, this is apparently what the studio’s looking to do, and it sounds like something that’d make sense.

Before we get too excited, though, let’s keep in mind that Marvel themselves have yet to confirm anything, but from what we understand, this intel comes from someone who worked on both trailers, so we’re inclined to believe it. Not to mention that there’s been a TON of speculation pointing to Monday being the day when we get the first Avengers 4 footage.

As for Captain Marvel, well, we didn’t expect a new trailer just yet, but we’re more than happy to see one. It’s been a bit of a dry period for the MCU as of late, so this double whammy – if it pans out – will be much appreciated. Not to mention it should also tide us over nicely until 2019 hits and the real marketing barrages for Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel begin.

In any case, we should know if all this plays out soon enough, but in the meantime, it’d be best to prepare yourself for what’s shaping up to be, as we said above, a truly unforgettable week.
