Xiaomi has announced the Mi Mix 3, the latest entry in its series of full-screen flagship phones. It’s yet another high-end Chinese device with a huge screen-to-body ratio achieved by hiding the front-facing cameras on a sliding mechanism — no notch required. Unlike the Vivo Nex or Oppo Find X, however, the slider isn’t powered by motors. CEO Lei Jun compares the design to older sliding phones and suggests that it’ll be relaxing just to play with.
The previous two Mi Mix phones were both pioneering attempts by Xiaomi to reduce the bezels around the screen as much as possible, but they predated the now-ubiquitous notch and compromised by awkwardly placing the selfie camera below the screen, forcing you to hold the phone upside-down or...

The evolutionary history of fingerprint sensors on phones dates back to 2007 when phones like Toshiba G500 and HTC P6 500 launched with massive optical fingerprint readers. Thereafter, these biometric readers kept popping up sporadically till the feature finally became mainstream with the launch of Apple iPhone 5s in 2013. Android officially adopted fingerprint sensors […]

The underwhelming box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story showed that this brand isn’t invincible, but a new report from Forbes suggests that Star Wars: Episode IX is already in a good position to put the franchise commercially back on track.
There are many theories out there for why audiences stayed away from Solo, ranging from poor marketing to Star Wars fatigue, but one of the more persuasive suggestions for a possible factor is that the Ron Howard-helmed spinoff was overshadowed by heavy competition, having arrived in cinemas around the same time as such popular franchise releases like Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. With this in mind, Forbes’ argument certainly seems plausible that a few recent scheduling changes could do some real favors for the upcoming sequel to The Last Jedi.
You may have heard the news recently that the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed a full seven months from its previously planned November 1st, 2019, release date. While the internet may not have been too happy with this development, it could be pretty good for Episode IX, which is no longer at risk of having to compete with the DCEU movie for the public’s attention when it comes out a little later in the year.
Similarly, with Bond 25 pushed back from its November 8th, 2019, release slot and The Terminator brought forward in the year a couple of weeks to fill Wonder Woman’s old slot, the lane is suddenly looking a lot clearer for director J.J. Abrams’ next film.
When Star Wars: Episode IX does hit theaters on December 20th, 2019, it’s unlikely that the bitterness among certain fans over last year’s divisive The Last Jedi will have completely subsided, but if this new report is anything to go by, then the odds are looking pretty good regardless for this all-important trilogy closer.
While the internet has seen a generous supply of leaks and theories around the upcoming Avengers 4, Marvel Studios remain stingy on the official details, and apparently this continuing silence has yielded a strange new display of fan impatience.
Though you may be unfamiliar with the name Kirk Deveyck, the YouTuber got some noteworthy viewing figures last year with a video demanding that Marvel release the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, and once more a few months ago with a similarly high-energy upload calling for the Captain Marvel teaser.
Now, Deveyck is staying decidedly on brand with another eccentric viral release titled: “WE WANT THE TRAILER FOR AVENGERS 4”
For what it’s worth, the speculation lately is that the Avengers 4 trailer could be only a few weeks away, which would line up pretty closely with the the promotion for Infinity War. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige also offered a vague idea of when we can expect this promo when he told Collider:
“That’ll be after the Captain Marvel teaser probably, announcing that title. It’ll be towards the end of the year with however we launch that film.”
When it finally does arrive, not only will we presumably get a much better idea of what the Russo Brothers have planned for the MCU’s Phase 3 finale, but the many dubious trailer description “leaks” that have been flooding online forums can finally stop, too.
The other major reveal that may arrive at the same time is the long-awaited title of next year’s flick. Marvel’s questionable choice to sit on the name for so long has led to a whole load of suggestions making the rounds online, the most persistent of the rumored candidates perhaps being Avengers: Annihilation.
In any case, Avengers 4 won’t be hitting cinemas until May 3rd, 2019, and you can bet that the fans won’t be getting any calmer in the meantime.
With Wonder Woman 1984 delayed by a whole seven months, it looks like 2019 is set to be the year of Shazam!, at least as far as DCEU releases go. Now we’re hearing from Production Weekly that the crew will be returning to Toronto for three weeks of reshoots, beginning some time between November 1st and the 18th.
If all this recent talk of Warner steering the superhero franchise in a new direction is anything to go by, it looks like Billy Batson’s big screen debut will stay relatively isolated from all the Justice League action that came before it. Though it was reported last month that Henry Cavill’s Superman was originally planned to show up at the end of the movie in a Nick Fury-esque cameo, it doesn’t look like this crossover meeting will be happening anymore, not least because Cavill has seemingly dropped out of the franchise.
Though the news has been a little thin lately on this David F. Sandberg-helmed film, star Zachary Levi did take the time to troll a rival superhero from X-Men universe earlier this month, taking to Instagram with a photo showing that he’d parked in a space reserved for Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds.
The funny thing is that this pair should probably get along pretty well given their shared passion for meta-humor. Levi has mentioned that the upcoming movie has a little fun with the fact that Shazam has previously gone by the name Captain Marvel, which also happens to be the superhero alter ego of a certain Carol Danvers from the MCU. With the Captain Marvel movie due for release less than a month before Levi’s flick, it seems that while the actor may not get his wish of fighting Superman, that doesn’t mean he won’t have any other heroes to compete with.
In any case, we’ll see what sort of future Shazam! helps carve out for the DCEU when it hits theaters on April 5th, 2019.
In 2016, Ghostbusters became an unexpectedly touchy subject on the internet, with Paul Feig’s female-led flick becoming the focus of a wave of backlash months before it had even reached cinemas. Today, it’s a film that’s referenced far more for the storm of online rage around it than its actual content, with the movie’s first trailer in particular being the target of a sea of sexist and racist comments, as well as a lot of nostalgic viewers who were just mad to see another Hollywood reboot.
In a recent interview, star Melissa McCarthy reflected on this heated response and offered up the following:
“Kind of jarring that in this day and age, that that is something that someone…like, if you said, ‘You ruined my childhood,’ I remember that was a thing, which I thought, ‘I’m pretty sure you’ve got a weird childhood. If a movie, 35 years later, is ruining your childhood, don’t blame us, you’ve got your own issues,'” the actress shared with Yahoo!. “I just don’t know why people are so afraid of women. It’s fascinating to me. And I don’t know how to explain it, other than, as the mom of two daughters, I just always say, ‘There you go. Be you. Don’t back down.'”
The Ghostbusters backlash remains an oft-referenced chapter in recent pop culture history. Sandra Bullock, for instance, shared her thoughts on the phenomenon just earlier this year after the female-led Ocean’s 8 hit theaters, describing the reaction as “unfair on a level that I can’t even not be mad about talking about.” The fan rage provoked by Star Wars: The Last Jedi, meanwhile, has invited many comparisons to the Ghostbusters response, with the film serving as another case of female leads being the subject of online harassment.
But beyond its incensed pre-release reception, Feig’s feature ultimately didn’t make much of a splash, opening in cinemas to moderately good reviews but failing to make enough money to warrant a sequel. Should the opportunity ever arise for another installment, however, the director would clearly be game, telling Yahoo! earlier this year:
“We would love to; it’s really up to the studio to want to do it. We had so much fun making that movie. The movie’s just really built an audience in the two years since it’s been out. I get contacted every day by people who are such fans of it, and so many women who are inspired by seeing women in science. I will go to my grave so proud of that movie, and so proud of what that cast did in that film.”
Feig can stay hopeful about getting another Ghostbusters if he wants, but when the only thing people remember about a movie is that it was hated by a lot of people who never saw it, the momentum probably isn’t there for a follow-up.
