The new AirPods look and sound familiar, but have a couple new tricks
Over the last few years, game developer Capcom has experienced something of a renaissance after largely struggling during the industry’s push into HD. 2017 saw the release of Resident Evil 7, which shifted the long-running series to a first-person perspective, imbuing it with a new sense of horror. One year later Monster Hunter World debuted with a seamless, open-world structure that turned a once niche Japanese action series into a global phenomenon.
While all of this was happening, Hideaki Itsuno was secretly working on the first new Devil May Cry game in a decade. As he watched his peers’ continued success, the director says that he was largely unaffected by the resurgence of other iconic Capcom franchises. But he admits that it...
A rare first edition copy of a Harry Potter book has sold at auction for £68,812 (around $90,000) which Design Taxi notes far exceeds its estimated valuation of £40,000 to £60,000. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first released in 1998, in an initial run of around 500 copies, and would later go on to sell over 120 million copies worldwide.
The first edition of the book is a fascinating historical record when compared to the scale of the global franchise it would go on to spawn. It contains a couple of typos including one on its rear cover where “Philosopher’s” is misspelled as “Philospher’s,” and another where a list of equipment includes a repeated line. It’s an inauspicious start to what would go on to become one of the...

The ‘Future Pop’ tour is a dazzling collision of technology and choreography
This morning, two astronauts will suit up and head outside the International Space Station for a spacewalk — but the duo isn’t exactly the one the world was hoping for. Originally, NASA had announced that today’s excursion would be performed by the two women currently on board the ISS, Anne McClain and Christina Koch, making it the first all-female spacewalk in history. But due to some last-minute logistics and suit availability on the ISS, a male astronaut, Nick Hague, is taking McClain’s place instead.
When NASA first announced that today’s scheduled spacewalk would be conducted by only women, the news was met with widespread praise and excitement. Since the advent of human spaceflight, only 13 women have ever performed spacewalks, and...
With its latest update, Gmail’s iOS app finally lets you customize what happens when you swipe your emails. Five different actions are supported, including archiving or deleting emails, marking them as read or unread, snoozing, archiving, or moving them to a different folder. You can also assign different actions to left or right swipes.
The update brings the functionality of Gmail’s iOS app into line with its Android equivalent. Until recently, the iOS app only let you archive or delete emails by swiping, and swiping in either direction would do the same thing. The update comes as part of a broader redesign announced by Google back in January.
The functionality is available in the latest version of the Gmail app, which began its rollout...

In 2016, ProPublica found that Facebook was allowing advertisers to publish discriminatory housing ads, in apparent violation of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Civil rights groups, the state of Washington, and the federal government all mobilized in protest, leading to various legal skirmishes. And then, less than two weeks ago, it appeared the long-running issue had been resolved: Facebook announced a settlement with the groups suing it, and said it would eliminate additional targeting options that could let people post discriminatory advertisements.
Just when it seemed the advertising discrimination issue was behind us, here comes — Secretary Ben Carson of the Department of Housing and Urban Development?

Small satellite launcher Rocket Lab successfully pulled off its first flight of the year out of New Zealand this evening, sending an experimental communications satellite into orbit for DARPA. It marks the third commercial flight of Rocket Lab’s small Electron rocket, and the fifth flight overall for the fledgling company, which just began launching rockets in 2017.
Dubbed the R3D2 mission, the flight sent up a small, 330-pound satellite into orbit, designed to test out a new kind of radio antenna. Made out of a type of material known as Kapton, the antenna is as thin as tissue paper, but able to grow in size while in space. The antenna launched on the rocket folded up inside a canister, and now that it’s in orbit, the antenna will...
AT&T has a new climate change risk-assessment tool, developed with the help of Argonne National Laboratory’s scientists and supercomputing power, CNBC reports. The telecommunications company hopes to protect its infrastructure from the flooding and extreme weather events that are projected to increase as climate change continues.
A few years ago, AT&T started thinking about the long-term risks that climate change posed to its equipment. For example, the company has cell towers and sites across the country that are vulnerable to flooding and might need to be lifted above encroaching waters. In other places, services rely on above-ground copper wires that can blow down in large storms, and which might be safer buried underground as...
After weeks of teasing, Silicon Valley electric motorcycle manufacturer Lightning pulled the wraps off the Strike on Thursday, which will be the company’s first two-wheeled EV for the broader market. Starting at $13,000, the sporty Strike can last for 70 miles on the highway or 100 miles in the city on a single charge, but can be optioned up to a battery pack with double the range. The company is already taking preorders, and deliveries of the more expensive versions will start shipping in July.
The $13,000 base version of the standard range Strike carries a 10kWh battery pack and a liquid-cooled electric motor with the equivalent of 90 horsepower. The 455-pound bike generates 180 pound-feet of torque, and can reach a top speed of 135...
A 24-year-old security researcher narrowly avoided prison today, after admitting to hacking into Microsoft and Nintendo servers and stealing confidential information. Zammis Clark, known online as Slipstream or Raylee, was charged on multiple counts of computer misuse offenses in a London Crown Court on Thursday, and pleaded guilty to hacking into Microsoft and Nintendo networks.
Prosecutors revealed that Clark had gained access to a Microsoft server on January 24th, 2017 using an internal username and password, and then uploaded a web shell to remotely access Microsoft’s network freely for at least three weeks. Clark then uploaded multiple shells which allowed him to search through Microsoft’s network, upload files, and download data.

Its latest flagship the Galaxy S10 might be getting the most attention these days, but Samsung is still trying to generate some sales of last year’s Galaxy Note 9 ahead of its own refresh this coming summer. This evening, the company is holding a brief 6-hour sale during which you can save $300 on the unlocked Note 9 — in either the 128GB storage / 6GB RAM or 512GB / 8GB configurations.
This might be the Note 9’s lowest price ever; it ticked down to just over $700 a few weeks ago, but has since risen back up to $899 or its standard $999 at most retailers.
To take advantage of the deal, enter code 300SAMSUNG at the company’s store anytime tonight (March 28th) between 6PM ET and 11:59PM ET and you should see the $300 taken off your...
Canon announced a new pair of instant-print cameras that are set to challenge Fujifilm’s Instax mini-film cameras, part of a trend embraced by social media users and influencers alike.
Enter the two Canon IVY CLIQ instant-print cameras Each of Canon’s new shooters can hold up to ten sheets of Zink film, can export its photos to the CLIQ+ Instant Camera Printer + App, and includes an optical viewfinder plus a USB cord for charging the battery.
The IVY CLIQ+ (the higher end of the two cameras, called the Zoemini S in Europe) sports an 8-megapixel sensor, 2 x 2 and 2 x 3 printing options, expansion via a microSD card slot, a reprint option to share recent shots with friends, and a selfie mirror surround by an LED light ring so you can...
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development, which just filed housing discrimination charges against Facebook for its advertising policies, is reportedly scrutinizing Google and Twitter’s policies as well. The Washington Post writes that HUD officials told Twitter and Google about a probe into their advertising policies last year; a review is supposedly still ongoing. “They want to make sure that other companies aren’t getting away with something that one company is investigated for,” an anonymous source told the Post.
The HUD first announced a complaint against Facebook last year, and it filed the suit soon after Facebook reached a major settlement with civil rights groups earlier this month. While Facebook agreed to remove...
Nearly a decade after the original Borderlands, Gearbox Software has announced a third main installment in the series — alongside a trailer that features a few familiar characters. There’s very little hard detail about its plot, features, or release date, but this marks the first new, numbered game since 2012, and we’ll supposedly learn more about it on April 3rd.
The Borderlands 3 trailer seems to promise the same thing as Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It looks like a colorful shooter for up to four players, with a distinctive cartoonish style and endless (“over one billion,” up from the original game’s literally world record-holding 17.75 million) varieties of procedurally generated firearms.

Simon Kinberg, who’s been a producer on many of the X-Men films, feels very strongly that Channing Tatum is the perfect fit for the role of Gambit.
Ever since the franchise started to hit theaters, fans have been disappointed that their favorite Cajun card-thrower hasn’t been prominently featured and would really like to see him get in on all the action. The movies have been missing one of their most valuable players from the comics, with the exception of Taylor Kitsch’s lackluster version in the disappointing X-Men: Origins. But according to the Dark Phoenix director, there’s really only one man to play the part.
Channing Tatum’s been set to play Gambit in a standalone film that’s had some trouble in development and the project’s future is now in question. But nevertheless, while speaking to Variety, Kinberg stated that he believes Tatum’s the chosen one and the only person who can get it done.
“I would love to see [Gambit] happen. I love the idea of Channing playing Gambit. I think we have a great script for it, and I think it’s a role he was born to play. It’s a character I grew up loving, and I know the fans love, so I suspect—I hope it will happen.”
As you may or may not know, Gambit was set to be a romantic comedy, which would have been fitting given both the actor and character’s backgrounds. But after the disappointment that was the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, the budget for the flick was cut and things continued to stall out from there. And now the project’s on hold at Disney.
Now that the merger has finally completed, the future of the X-Men is unknown. Dark Phoenix is set to release this June, but The New Mutant still doesn’t have a release date and the reshoots still haven’t occurred. Actress Maisie Williams also recently stated she has no idea what’s going on with the film. So if The New Mutants is in that much disarray, it doesn’t bode well for the foreseeable future of Gambit.
In any case, the MCU’s about to shift gears and complete its Infinity Saga, so they’ll be needing a ton of new heroes to fill those empty slots left by the seasoned vets hanging it up. Whether Disney keeps the current lineup of individuals playing the mutant heroes or recasts brand new actors, Channing Tatum should certainly be kept in the conversation when it finally does come time for Gambit to make his triumphant return to the silver screen.
It seems that the MCU may soon have another Oscar-winner in its roster, with THR reporting that Angelina Jolie is in talks to join the cast of The Eternals.
So far, details on Chloe Zhao’s film are in short supply, and that goes especially for the cast list. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the Jolie name holds a lot of clout with the fans, a lot of whom have taken to Twitter to show their excitement for the potential franchise newcomer:

The THR report also relayed word that The Eternals will include a “love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.” The claim has prompted speculation that Jolie might be playing Sersi, though it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will offer any confirmation at least until after they’re finished with the MCU’s 2019 slate.
As it stands, we’ve already heard quite a few rumors and reports on Zhao’s movie, the most noteworthy perhaps being that the film may feature the MCU’s first openly gay lead. And while Marvel has remained tight-lipped on the matter, they’ve at least made it very clear that plans are in place to improve the franchise’s LGBT representation.
In any case, it’s expected that The Eternals will arrive in theaters in November, 2020, as the year’s second MCU movie. In the meantime, Avengers: Endgame is set for release on April 26th of this year, followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5th. And after that, the Black Widow solo movie is reportedly aiming for a May 2020 release. As for Jolie, you can see her reprise her role in another Disney franchise when Maleficent: Mistress of Evil comes out on October 18th, 2019.
