Preparation work for Tesla’s Gigafactory near Berlin can continue, less than a week after work had to be paused due to concerns raised by local environmental activists, Bloomberg reports. Yesterday, a court ruled that local authorities hadn’t sidestepped regulations in allowing Tesla’s tree felling work to begin. The electric car company is currently in the process of clearing 92 hectares of forest in Gruenheide, east of Berlin, in preparation for the construction of its first European Gigafactory.

Any delay could have had a big impact on Tesla’s schedule for the factory, since the breeding period for local wildlife begins next month. The region’s economy minister has argued that the forest needs to be cleared by mid-March, otherwise...

Mission Impossible Star Could Be Cast In Disney’s Planet Of The Apes Film

Of the many franchises plunged into limbo by Disney’s Fox buyout – yep, that story again – sci-fi’s favourite talking animals saga Planet of the Apes is high on the list of filmgoer concerns. It’s definitely fair to describe it as a talking animals saga. Not misleading in the slightest.

30 months on from the release of the last film, 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, there is at least a sequel in development, even if it doesn’t have a release date yet. We understand that one of the names being explored as a potential lead in the still untitled 10th Apes movie is Mission Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson. The actress would be the first female lead in the franchise’s 52-year film history. Given the project still appears to be some way from production, it might be a while longer before we get this confirmed or denied. Though knowing my track-record as a soothsayer, saying we won’t find out for a while could see it announced tomorrow morning. It wouldn’t be the first time.

If you want some even more completely very definitely absolutely serious speculation, Tim Burton hasn’t got any projects in the pipeline. Perhaps we could be getting the 2001 Burton remake sequel we always wanted? What do you mean that thought gives you nightmares? You can rest easy. Disney’s Planet of the Apes project already has a director signed on – Maze Runner man Wes Ball. If the Ball-Ferguson axis falls through, you can always turn to Burton-Wahlberg to stick the landing. I see no flaws with that plan. Their movie was an underappreciated masterpiece of modern cinematic expressionism – if the expression was horror in the face of the void.

Marvel Fans Can Win Captain America’s Shield From Avengers: Endgame

Fans of Marvel films, or movies in general, now have a chance to own a piece of cinematic history. That’s right, Captain America himself, Chris Evans, is giving away one of the shields used in Avengers: Endgame to benefit the charity Girl Powerful, which is a youth empowerment organization.

Evans, who played the iconic Marvel character for nearly a decade, took to Twitter to let fans know about the piece of movie memorabilia being available, saying:

“Hey guys, you have a chance to win a screen-used Captain America shield from Avengers: Endgame to support Girl Powerful who are community leaders in real life. Only 4 days left to enter a piece of Marvel history.”

Fans have until midnight on February 20th to be eligible for the prize, and there are different tiers to enter. The more you donate, the greater chance you have of winning the shield. A $10 donation gets you 100 entries, while $25 gives you 300 entries and the highest you can go is $1,000, which will get you 50,000 entries.

Worried about the legitimacy of the shield? Don’t be, as it was gifted to Girl Powerful by Marvel Studios Executive Producer Victoria Alonso and was authenticated by Senior Prop Master Russell Bobbitt. The shield also comes with a letter of authenticity in case your friends don’t believe you.

What makes the shield especially priceless is that it was used during the final time Evans portrayed the character, assuming he never returns. He’s reiterated on several instances that he’s done dawning the stars and stripes, but who knows what the future holds?

In any case, this isn’t really about the shield – it’s about donating to a good cause. Girl Powerful is a youth empowerment organization that gives tween and teen girls the tools and confidence to build a strong sense of self. Using a mentorship program that focuses on social-emotional learning, the ultimate goal is to make every girl feel seen, valued and heard. Not a bad way to spend some of your money, eh? Those interested in donating can do so at SpotFund.com.
