The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wants To Play Lobo For DC

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s no stranger to the DC universe. He played Edward Blake AKA the Comedian in 2009’s Watchmen and then worked with director Zack Snyder again on 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which he cameo’d as the Dark Knight’s ill-fated father Thomas Wayne. However, the actor – who’s most known for playing Negan on The Walking Dead – has yet another character in mind that he’d like to portray.

While appearing at Walker Stalker Con’s An Evening with Norman & Jeffrey event, the duo of TWD stars were asked which superheroes they would like to suit up as on screen. Norman Reedus echoed previous comments by picking Ghost Rider as one of his choices, while Morgan steered clear of Marvel and instead settled DC’s Main Man himself, Lobo.

“Who’s left? Who hasn’t been played by one of the Chrises?” JDM jokingly began, before thinking about it some more and name-checking the last Czarnian.

“The only one I want to play is DC and Lobo. He’s badass. Marvel, I don’t know, everyone that’s in it is pretty good. I feel like all the greatest characters, they’re working.”

Lobo DC Comics

There’s been talk of a Lobo solo movie for years over at Warner Bros., with both Jason Momoa and Dwayne Johnson flirting with the character being moving on to different DC roles (Aquaman and Black Adam, respectively). Earlier this year, however, a report claimed that the Lobo vehicle was one of a handful of projects that’d been quietly canned.

For fans, most would prefer to see Morgan reprise Thomas Wayne in a Flashpoint movie which depicts Bruce’s dad as Batman from an alternate timeline. This looked to be on the cards for a while, too, before the Scarlet Speedster’s standalone adventure changed tack, making it seem like Morgan’s role in the DC shared universe was a one-and-done deal.

What we do know is that we’ll see Jeffrey Dean Morgan back as Negan in the ninth season of The Walking Dead, and as for Lobo, well, we’ll continue to hold out hope.
