It’s now been over fifteen months since Justice League arrived in theaters to underwhelming box office returns, and in all that time, many fans haven’t given up hope that the fabled “Snyder Cut” of the film might one day see the light of day. Even Aquaman star Jason Momoa admitted last December to being “obsessed” with the version of the ensemble actioner that might’ve been, and in a recent message from Zack Snyder’s son Eli Snyder, fans may finally have a reason to believe that big news on the matter could be just around the corner.
The development all started with a social media message sent to Eli Snyder asking if he had anything to report on the Snyder Cut, to which he responded, “Total optimism. Good things are coming soon.” When a screenshot of this exchange was shared to Vero with a caption declaring it to be “HUGE news,” followed by the hashtag “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut,” the post was liked by Zack Snyder himself, suggesting that Eli Snyder’s tease might well mean what we think it means.
So far, we’ve yet to see this recent social media activity translate into any actual announcements, meaning that Snyder fans may want to keep their expectations in check for the moment. Still, it certainly looks like the filmmaker has something in the works, and anything that can bring us closer to Snyder’s original vision for Justice League is sure to be welcomed by many of the DCEU’s most passionate followers. For now, let’s just watch this space and see what happens.
In the meantime, the franchise continues with Shazam!, which hits theaters on April 5th, 2019. After that, Birds of Prey is set to come out on February 7th, 2020, followed by Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5th of the same year. But while the cinematic universe may end up persisting well beyond its divisive early years under Zack Snyder, it’s clear that the director’s contributions to the saga still hold a special place in the hearts of many a DC fan.
