Last night, Black Panther made history.
The Afrocentric blockbuster became the first Marvel Studios production to bag an Academy Award – and it didn’t stop there. While Ryan Coogler’s star-studded hit lucked out of the Best Picture race (for those keeping track, Peter Farrelly’s Green Book clinched the top prize), Black Panther took home a total of three gongs: Best Production Design, Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.
It’s quite the feat, particularly when you consider that Ruth Carter, who picked up the prize for Best Costume Design, is now the first African-American woman to win in the category. And that’s not all; Black Panther production designer Hannah Beachler followed suit by becoming the first woman of color to claim that world-famous statuette.
Naturally, the Internet has been fawning over Black Panther all day (and rightly so), and below, we’ve collected some of the best reactions to what was undoubtedly a historic night for Hollywood superhero movies.

It’s particularly heartwarming to see Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame) and Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok) celebrate Black Panther‘s multiple wins. They’re part of the Marvel family, after all, but there was something incredibly wholesome about their reactions late yesterday evening.
Looking further afield, we’re now little over one week out from the launch of Captain Marvel, another record-setter in that it’s set to become Marvel’s first female-fronted solo movie. It’ll seemingly be the first of many to come, too, but right now, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s standalone flick is more concerned with introducing Carol Danvers to the world, before she inevitably buddies up with the remaining members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when Endgame opens big this summer.
