The Quantum Realm is nothing if not mysterious.
Ever since its subtle introduction during Ant-Man three years ago, Marvel’s bizarre dimension, one which seemingly exists between the known and the unknown, has become the lynchpin of Phase 3 and will, in all likelihood, continue to grow in prominence as we approach Avengers 4.
The Captain Marvel solo movie is said to be tethered to the Quantum Realm, too, while much of last month’s Ant-Man and the Wasp revolved around our titular duo and their quest to recover Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) from the abyss.
And though much of Janet’s quest has seemingly been tabled for the as-yet-unannounced Ant-Man 3, a string of beautiful concept art for Ant-Man and the Wasp has emerged by way of CBM, and it places a laser focus on her adventures within the Quantum Realm.
Whether it’s the alternate costume designs or the microscopic creatures, this is an impressive glimpse into the creation of Ant-Man and the Wasp and its most bizarre sequences. Because just like Doctor Strange before it, Peyton Reed’s MCU sequel toys with the metaphysical, and it’s a credit to Marvel’s pool of concept artists that oftentimes the artwork for a movie is just as interesting (if not more interesting) than the movie itself.
Meanwhile, over in the United Kingdom, Ant-Man and the Wasp has just made its theatrical debut (blame the 2018 World Cup for the prolonged interlude), and while it’s struggled to unseat Mamma Mia from the box office throne, the added boon will no doubt push Marvel’s latest release past $500M worldwide. And then comes the film’s China release on August 24th, so it’ll be interesting to see how the sequel fares in the Middle Kingdom.
