Halloween Director Says Michael Myers Is Still A Force To Be Reckoned With

Unforgiving, unyielding, relentless – it seems Michael Myers is still the walking personification of evil we met in ’78. Or so says David Gordon Green.

Halloween‘s director and co-writer sat down with The Los Angeles Times (h/h ComicBook.com) just recently to promote his upcoming horror sequel, and why it honors the true spirit of Myers, who’s a force to be reckoned with.

As a matter of fact, Green believes Michael Myers hasn’t changed whatsoever, and that’s what makes him so special as a faceless villain capable of reigniting a string of nightmares from yesteryear. All of this will no doubt combine for an unforgettable moviegoing experience, and if nothing else, Halloween has our curiosity for its twist on the franchise lore alone.

And here’s how Green describes the boogeyman himself:

Michael Myers hasn’t evolved as a character in any way, shape or form [since 1978]; he’s the essence of evil. He has no character. He has no personality. He has no interests. He never has. He’s someone that is moving forward and reacting to the world around him, but not with any sort of conscious objective. And how the world around him reacts to his behavior is where our story comes to life.

In short, Blumhouse’s sequel operates on the basis that Michael Myers was arrested at the tail-end of Halloween, ultimately leading to the moment when, after 40 years spent locked behind bars, he escapes confinement, and begins hunting Laurie Strode once more. But make no mistake, Laurie has spent the past four decades preparing for the worst. And the worst has come.

Halloween returns home on October 19th. And we simply can’t wait to see what David Gordon Green and Co. have in store.
