Last year, leaked set material offered a strong indication that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame would see Iron Man wield a weapon very similar to the proton cannon from the Marvel vs. Capcom video games, and thanks to another piece of alleged intel, we now have reason to believe that Stark’s friend James Rhodes might be fitted with his own deadly prop from the series.
In a recent post from Instagram user 1414falconfan, it’s reported that one of the LEGO sets due for release later this year is going under the title of “War Machine Destroyer,” suggesting that War Machine will be making use of the War Destroyer from Marvel vs. Capcom. This weapon allows Rhodey to shoot an array of missiles into the air, and while this report should be taken for the rumor it is, you can imagine that the character may want the extra firepower in the Marvel Phase 3 finale.
This new piece of intel is just one among many LEGO leaks that have been circulating online in recent weeks, with several images emerging in just these last few days of heroes in their supposed Quantum Realm suits. At this point, Endgame-related LEGO material has practically become a trend, which certainly leaves the internet vulnerable to acts of fakery, but it’s still nice to get some idea of the potential designs to come before Marvel Studios shows us the real thing.
In any case, though Rhodey was among the lucky survivors of Avengers: Infinity War, the character’s role in the upcoming sequel remains unclear, though if the film is looking to keep the emotional focus on the Phase 1 Avengers, then perhaps we shouldn’t expect much more than a supporting part for War Machine in whatever plan that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes come up with. We’ll find out either way when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
