IMDb Launches Free Streaming Service With Tons Of Horror Titles

In a world where Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and more are all vying for your attention and hard-earned cash, IMDb has decided to get in on the fun as well by launching Freedive.

Available on IMDb.com and Fire TV devices, it’s only in the US at the moment but the new streaming service is completely free of charge and offers up tons of movies and television shows for your viewing pleasure. Of course, it doesn’t yet rival the library that you’ll see on some of its competitors, but considering that it’s free, it’s hard to complain.

“Customers already rely on IMDb to discover movies and TV shows and decide what to watch,” said Col Needham, founder and CEO of IMDB. “With the launch of IMDb Freedive, they can now also watch full-length movies and TV shows on IMDb and all Amazon Fire TV devices for free. We will continue to enhance IMDb Freedive based on customer feedback and will soon make it available more widely, including on IMDb’s leading mobile apps.”

Of course, the fact that it’s free does come with a catch, which is that the films and TV shows on Freedive will include ads. That’s obviously a pretty big drawback, but hey, if you don’t want to be interrupted by advertisements while watching, feel free to go ahead and fork out some cash for another streaming service.

If you ask us, Freedive is at least worth a look and so far, they’ve got a decent collection of horror movies starting to build-up, with the following titles being just a few of the genre’s entries that IMDb has available to stream right now:

  • Nightbreed
  • Exorcist: The Beginning
  • Urban Legend
  • Resident Evil: Apocalypse
  • Night of the Creeps
  • Anaconda
  • Prom Night (1980)
  • Idle Hands
  • Harbinger Down
  • Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

There’s more where those came from as well, and though none of the titles listed above qualify as horror classics or anything close, a few of them make for fun, harmless watches. I mean, Anaconda is kind of a cult favorite and Resident Evil: Apocalypse has tons of great action which will keep you entertained for a few hours.

You can head on over to Freedive for yourself to discover more of what it has to offer, but as we said above, it’s certainly worth checking out and with any luck, IMDb will continue to beef up their library in the coming weeks.
