New MCU Timeline Traces The History Of The Infinity Stones

The Infinity Stones have been the all-important MacGuffins that have been popping up across the MCU for nearly the past decade, leading to their starring role in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War. The six mighty powerful gems have been all over the cosmos, so it’s hard for even the most ardent viewers to keep track of their histories across the franchise. This new fan-made timeline, though, tells us everything we need to know about the Stones.

The six Infinity Stones – Space, Mind, Reality, Power, Time and Soul – have been knocking around the universe since its creation. As the Collector told us in Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re actually singularities that survived the Big Bang from whatever came before and became concentrated ingots. Each of them makes its wielder a dangerous foe, but it wasn’t until Thanos that all six were united.

As for where they got to before that, check out the timeline below, which records every different location we know each of the Stones to have been in according to information we’ve picked up from the moves – from the ancient times to the fateful Battle of Wakanda, when the Mad Titan wiped out half of the universe.

Looking at the timeline, it’s clear that Earth has always been a hub of activity for the Stones. Four out of six of them ended up on the blue planet at some time in their histories before Thanos brought them together in Wakanda. Up until that point, the most there had been on the same world at the same time was three, at the time of the Convergence (as seen in Thor: The Dark World) in 2013.

So, what’s next for the Infinity Stones in Avengers 4? Well, all signs are pointing to the remaining heroes traveling back in time to reclaim the gems before Thanos ever gets his hands on them. All that messing with the MCU‘s history will unfortunately mean that the above timeline will be have to be redrawn from top to bottom, but as of now, it’s a useful resource.
