Margot Robbie Wants A Poison Ivy And Harley Quinn Team-Up In The DCEU

Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to introduce a generous array of new additions to the DCEU, but according to Margo Robbie, there’s still at least one comic book character who’s just crying out for her cinematic universe debut.

That person is Poison Ivy, and while the classic Batman villain’s appearance in 1997’s infamous Batman & Robin may not have left filmgoers with the fondest of memories, the character remains a favorite among fans. And since Ivy has a long and eventful shared history with Harley Quinn in both comics and animation, it only figures that Robbie would be calling for her return to cinemas, making her case in a recent interview with Pride Source.

“Yeah. If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen”

As far as we know, Warner Bros. has no plans to bring Poison Ivy into the DCEU, but the character will at least be starring opposite the Clown Princess of Crime in the upcoming Harley Quinn animated series. For that DC Universe show, Lake Bell will be providing the voice of Dr. Pamela Isley, but when it comes to casting suggestions for Ivy’s next big screen rendition, Robbie has yet to settle on a name:

“You know what? I’ve thought about it a lot and there’s no one person who springs to mind. I’m pretty open-minded.”

Though it doesn’t look like Robbie will be pairing up with Poison Ivy anytime soon, Harley’s next DCEU outing will be giving her plenty more female characters to bounce off of, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez and Ella Jay Basco as Huntress, Black Canary, Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain respectively. We’ll find out if there’s any chemistry to this new team when Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hits theaters on February 7th, 2020.
