New Birds Of Prey Plot Details Tease What Harley’s Up To

As of earlier this month, the core cast of DC’s upcoming female team-up movie Birds of Prey is complete, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smolett-Bell and Rosie Perez joining the comic book universe alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya, respectively.

Previous leaked story details have told us that the gang will be joining forces to rescue Cassandra Cain – one of the Batgirls from the source material – from the clutches of Gotham-based crime boss Black Mask. Thanks to Mario-Francisco Robles of Revenge of the Fans, we now have even more plot details on Birds of Prey, though as with any report like this, we’d advise taking it with a grain of salt.

To start with, though, RTF reveals where the characters are at when the film begins. Laurel Lance AKA Black Canary is a singer who moonlights as a crime-fighter, Helena Bertinelli AKA Huntress is an assassin formally employed by Black Mask who now wants him dead after discovering he killed her family and Harley will be attempting to fly solo after splitting with the Joker (who apparently won’t appear but will still be referenced). Finally, Montoya is a GCPD cop who’s on the trail of Huntress and Harley, two of the most wanted women in the city.

As previously stated, they’ll be brought together by the hunt to save Cassandra from Black Mask. Roman Sionis is apparently grooming Cain to be his new “perfect assassin” now that Huntress has turned against him. According to RTF, Cassandra’s portrayal is akin to X-23’s in Logan – she’ll be a deadly teen who’s gifted at killing, but not so much with making conversation.

From what we understand – spoilers ahead – the Birds will reportedly succeed in rescuing Cain before the third act, which will revolve around Black Mask getting his revenge by sending his men to take on the team. Robles writes that he’s also heard that Birds of Prey could feature an “epic cameo,” but he’s not revealing who that is until he’s confirmed it with his source to make sure it’s genuine.

Cathy Yan’s movie is expected to go before the cameras on January 15th ahead of its release on February 7th, 2020, and as soon as we learn more, we’ll let you know.
