After months of secrecy, Marvel Studios finally unveiled the first trailer for Captain Marvel to the world today, meaning we at last got to see Brie Larson in action as the MCU’s first leading heroine, Carol Danvers. It must’ve been a pretty important moment for the actress, then, and she marked the occasion with the perfect tweet.
Following the release of the trailer this morning, Larson took to Twitter to share the very first poster for the movie, along with the short but awesome caption: “Look Mom, I’m a superhero.”
This moment has been a long time coming for the Oscar-winning actress, as she was first announced as Marvel’s choice to bring Carol Danvers to life back at San Diego Comic-Con 2016. She was cast so early on as the original plan was for her to appear for a cameo in Avengers: Infinity War, but this was ultimately decided against. Given that, Larson’s been waiting to tweet her mother that she’s a genuine superhero for two years now, so it must be quite cathartic for her to finally get that out there.
What’s more, the fact that she’s proudly telling her mom that she’s a Marvel hero has a lot of weight when you consider that there are still far too few comic book movies starring women. In fact, the star’s said in the past that part of what drove her to take the role was because she found Carol Danvers so “incredibly empowering” as a character.
She definitely is that, and we’ve also heard a lot about how Captain Marvel‘s likely the most powerful hero we’ve ever had in the MCU. Samuel L. Jackson definitely thinks so, and Larson herself might have even given away a spoiler the other month when she teased that Carol can move planets. Eat your heart out, Thanos.
