Unfortunately, whether or not James Gunn and The Walt Disney Company will be able to reconcile their working relationship does appear to be an open and shut case. Sadly, despite an outcry of support from Dave Bautista and the rest of his lovable ragtag crew, the House of Mouse is unlikely to bring back the shepherd of the irreverent supergroup franchise and, as a result of his termination, the man responsible for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies will not be behind the camera for the forthcoming third installment.
However, seeing as Gunn’s believed to have completed the script before he was let go, it’s unclear if Marvel and Disney will ultimately use his treatment when principal photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 begins, which it will early next year (assuming it stays on schedule).
That said, as stated earlier today, the latest is that the Mouse House does presently plan on utilizing the script put in place by Gunn. At least, that’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, though there’s still no confirmation from the studio on the matter one way or the other.
Regardless, we’ve just received word from Jeremy Conrad – Founder and Editor-In-Chief of MCUCosmic – that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is “fighting on the inside” for “Gunn’s vision” to remain part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Not only that, but Conrad also notes that Feige’s “livid” about what happened and is working hard to keep the script in place so that, like we just said, James Gunn’s vision is at least kept alive. Which, Conrad notes, would be the best case scenario here.
Regrettably, though, it isn’t only the script that Feige’s fighting for. Earlier this week, Drax the Destroyer, aka Dave Bautista, threatened to walk off the project entirely should Marvel and Disney mutually agree to scrap whatever Gunn had in store for us in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Whether that will actually happen or not remains to be seen, of course, but keep it locked on We Got This Covered as we’ll be bringing you any further updates as they arise.
