Although some may search for evidence to the contrary, it’s looking less and less likely that Ben Affleck will be donning the cape and cowl for Matt Reeves in The Batman.
Today, it was reported by TMZ that the actor’s checked into a live-in rehabilitation facility, where he’ll spend an “extended period of time” receiving treatment for alcohol addiction. Evidently, he was encouraged to enter a treatment facility by his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who was photographed leaving his residence yesterday visibly upset. However, it should be noted that Affleck needed little convincing, as apparently, he knew he needed help: “He’s seeking treatment. He knows he needs help and was vocal about it,” says the outlet.
Earlier this week, a photograph of Affleck receiving a delivery of alcohol at his home in Brentwood, California surfaced online, and it was this snapshot, presumedly, which prompted Garner to intervene. Additionally, Ben was spotted on vacation in Malibu with Playboy Playmate Shauna Sexton last week, and the two time Academy Award winner was discernible disheveled.
For Affleck, who recently turned forty-six, this will be his third stint in rehab. The actor first underwent treatment in 2001, and his most recent stretch occurred in December of last year.
As far as his involvement in Worlds of DC is concerned, last we heard, Matt Reeves was still in contact with Ben Affleck regarding his participation in The Batman. That said, taking into consideration that the filmmaker’s currently eyeing an early 2019 start date for principal photography, it’s likely that Reeves will be looking to iron out a cast and crew beforehand.
Unquestionably, though, the most important thing is the health of Ben Affleck, and in that regard, we wish him all the best.
