Avengers: Endgame Writers Hint At The Infinite Possibilities Of MCU Phase 4

While Joe and Anthony Russo tend to steal all the headlines, Avengers: Endgame simply would not have been possible without the creative prowess of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The MCU duo have helped craft the likes of The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and the super-sized Infinity War. But for Endgame, they things to a whole new level – so much so, that people like Kevin Smith are calling out for the MCU’s crown jewel to receive a Best Screenplay nomination at this year’s Oscars. It’s part of the reason why Avengers: Endgame‘s commentary track is chock-full of fascinating tidbits, as Markus and McFeely join the Russo Brothers to analyze each and every frame of the highest-grossing film in history.

Over on The Lose Angeles Times, though, the writing duo were quizzed about MCU Phase 4, and what comes next for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Put simply, they don’t know much…

McFeely: “I know nothing. I literally know nothing. I read things in Los Angeles Times and all these other sites, and I go, ‘Well, I don’t think Marvel announced that.’ There are all these little rumors things, but I don’t know them.”

Markus, on the other hand, hinted at the ways in which the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be able to expand in multiple directions – more so than Phases 1 through 3, which all culminated at Avengers: Endgame.

All I know is Phase 4 can go in a lot more directions than any of the preceding three phases. Because of, one, just because of the doors that three successful phases have opened. Now they have cosmic Marvel available, they have Doctor Strange cosmic Marvel available. There are so many directions you can go in now. Plus if you throw in the Disney+ streaming thing… I think it will be a phase that is shaped differently than the preceding ones. Something that can spread out in more directions at once.

Even if Markus and McFeely are keeping things hush-hush, the future looks incredibly bright for Marvel’s juggernaut franchise. Closer to home, we have the standalone Black Widow movie due for release on May 1st, 2020.
