Marvel Reportedly Developing Thunderbolts Movie, The Leader Will Be The Villain

When it comes to comic book properties that fans have long argued should be adapted for the MCU, the Thunderbolts are right up there. The group of supervillains looking to redeem themselves for their crimes would be a neat next step for a franchise continually looking to try new things, and it seems the studio is finally ready to take that step, according to our intel.

A source has informed We Got This Covered that Marvel is in the midst of developing a Thunderbolts movie. There’s a hope that this could be the first of a series, too. We don’t know which characters, pre-established or otherwise, could feature, but we have been told who the villain that these not so good guys will face. It’s apparently Samuel Sterns AKA the Leader, last seen in 2010’s The Incredible Hulk

TIH has long been the forgotten son of the MCU, as Edward Norton’s recasting with Mark Ruffalo has made its status in canon shaky. It still counts, though, as William Hurt’s General Ross later featured in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity WarFans have always wondered what happened to Sterns after his cranium enlarged once he was infected with Bruce Banner’s blood, and it seems the Thunderbolts movie might finally reveal the answer.

As for the team themselves, there’s certainly a lot of candidates floating around. Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s Hannah John-Kamen has already said she’s up for Ghost joining the Thunderbolts. And, speaking of Ross, the Red Hulk is a major member of the roster in the comics, so he could be a shoe-in. Other comics members already in the franchise include Winter Soldier, Baron Zemo and Ghost Rider. Hey, Deadpool’s also been on the team and he’s expected to make his way into the MCU soon, so perhaps he could show up, too?

We’ll update you with more on this story if and when new info comes in, but until then, if you’re excited by the idea of the Thunderbolts in the MCU, let us know in the comments section down below.
