Though the billion-dollar box office success of Captain Marvel has ensured a place for Carol Danvers in the future of the franchise, the heroine’s plans beyond this month’s Avengers: Endgame remain a little unclear. But should Brie Larson’s character be looking for a partner to explore the cosmos with, Karen Gillan has argued that Nebula could make for a fitting companion.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun, the actress was asked who she’d like to see the Guardians of the Galaxy regular interact with if she ever got her own standalone movie, to which she replied:
“I think she could be good with the Hulk — when he’s angry. They could be two angry people together. I’d like to see that. I think she’d be good with Captain Marvel action as well. I think Nebula would have an unspoken respect for Captain Marvel.”
Of course, with Endgame just six days away from release, there’s every chance that we’ll soon see her buddying up with Hulk, Captain Marvel or both. After all, it’s clear that they’re all on the same side, and the footage that recently screened at CinemaCon reportedly featured a brief exchange between Nebula and Carol.
In any case, while the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is expected to see the departure of some of the MCU’s biggest stars, it’s pretty much a given that Captain Marvel will live to see the end of the Phase 3 finale. At this point, her next major outing looks like it might well be Captain Marvel 2, which Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has hinted could be set before the events of Endgame.
As for Nebula, it remains to be seen if she’ll still be around for Marvel’s Phase 4, but the fact that Gillan has seen the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 seems encouraging. Either way, we’ll find out if Thanos’ adopted daughter can make any new friends when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
