Brie Larson Thanks Fans For Captain Marvel Hitting $1 Billion

Before it hit theaters, you couldn’t move for people saying that Captain Marvel was going to be a record flop for Marvel Studios. When asked for their reasoning, they blamed Brie Larson’s controversial comments on feminism, saying that they’d surely torpedo the film’s box office chances.

Well, Carol Danvers’ solo pic crossed the $1 billion mark yesterday, which means it’s safe to say that some of those critics might not have the expert grasp on box office trends that they think they do. Not only that, but that impressive figure also makes the film the seventh most successful MCU effort of all-time, leaping over hits like Spider-Man: HomecomingThor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And with Endgame hype cranking up and Carol finally showing up in the trailers, Captain Marvel will probably see another boost in box office receipts and may even surpass the $1.1 billion haul of Captain America: Civil War.

In short, it’s safe to say that Carol Danvers’ standalone outing has utterly defied the negative backlash it faced in the weeks leading up to release, and in a recent Twitter post from Brie Larson, the actress took a moment to thank her fans for making Captain Marvel the success story it is.

Of course, these kind of box office numbers surely mean that a sequel is coming and though one’s yet to be officially announced, producer Kevin Feige has already teased a few ideas for Captain Marvel 2, including that it might take place between the events of Carol’s first outing and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.

Speaking of which, after that brief clip of Ms. Danvers interacting with her fellow superheroes in last month’s trailer, the fans are already loving the chemistry between Captain Marvel and Thor, but we’ll find out what else is in store for Larson’s hero when Avengers: Endgame touches down on April 26th.
