New Pet Sematary Poster Pays Tribute To Another Stephen King Adaptation

Though we’re currently in the midst of a exceptionally big year for movies based on Stephen King novels, the renowned author’s body of work is no stranger to the big screen, and in the new poster for Pet Sematary, the upcoming remake of one ‘80s King adaptation pays tribute to another.

The 1983 novel Pet Sematary was last brought to theaters with the 1989 film of the same name. Three years prior, however, Rob Reiner’s Stand by Me offered an even more beloved take on a King book, and it may not be mere coincidence that the latest Pet Sematary poster seems to echo a poster for the 1986 coming-of-age flick. If you’d care to see for yourself, both posters are viewable in the gallery below.

Of course, despite the same author being behind the source material of Pet Sematary and Stand by Me, you can expect Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer’s horror movie to have little in common with Reiner’s drama besides, well, dead kids. The masked children in the Pet Sematary poster, for instance, seem to be involved in some less-than-heartwarming ceremonies on the site of an ancient burial ground that has the power to raise the dead, and going by the trailer released last week, these silent figures also have a tendency to get pretty violent on occasion.

In any case, you can judge for yourself where the new Pet Sematary ranks in the ever-growing list of King adaptations when the film hits theaters on April 5th, 2019. After that, the author sees yet more of his work reach cinemas later in the year, with It: Chapter Two due for release on September 6th, before Doctor Sleep comes out on November 8th.
