Jason Blum Says Halloween Sequel Not Official Yet

Overall, Michael Myers’ long-anticipated return back in October was a resounding success, given that Halloween scored rave reviews and a healthy $253 million at the worldwide box office. It’s not enough to set the world on fire, of course, but for an R-rated trip down memory lane, Blumhouse’s sequel was a bonafide success story and as such, it came as no surprise to learn from co-writer Danny McBride that sequel talks are already underway.

That was about 4 months ago, though, and since then, it’s been radio silence as far as updates on another outing for Mr. Myers go. But it turns out there’s a good reason for that, and that’s because apparently, the sequel isn’t official just yet. According to producer Jason Blum, who recently spoke with CinePOP, he’d love to make another film, but can’t quite confirm that such a thing is happening at the moment.

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t say what the delay is or why there seems to be some hesitation, but for what it’s worth, we know that John Carpenter is game to score the music for another Halloween. The involvement of the rest of the team, however, remains very much up in the air right now.

While it’s yet to be confirmed if David Gordon Green would be interested in returning, Jamie Lee Curtis has said that she’ll only reprise her role as Laurie Strode if the director stays on. That being said, we’ve also been told that the actress still hasn’t been contacted for the sequel, leaving us to speculate on just what Blumhouse has in mind for the next Halloween. Given the success of the last film, though, we don’t imagine the studio will take too long to get things moving on a follow-up.
