Avengers: Endgame is slightly over three months away from reaching cinemas, but for one terminally ill Marvel fan, the release may not come soon enough. So when 33-year-old Alexander Q took to social media to inquire about the possibility of seeing the film early, the community soon rallied behind him, and now it seems that Disney has taken notice.
The story has unfolded swiftly, starting just last week when Alexander took to Reddit with a post titled “Dying Before April: My Endgame,” in which he reported that he was suffering from liver cancer, mouth cancer and bone marrow failure, and wasn’t expecting to live to see the release of Endgame. Observing how other terminally ill fans have attended early screenings, Alexander asked if the same could be done for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel. In these last few days, the post has garnered significant attention from the fans, and in a recent update, Alexander said that Disney has reached out to him to discuss options.
In his Reddit activity, Alexander has kept a morbid sense of humor about his situation, writing that if he does survive to the release of Endgame, he’ll “feel sorta obligated to die,” before adding that he doesn’t mean to be “greedy” but wants to know if they can throw an advance screening of Captain Marvel into the mix as well. When a user on Twitter asked what’s stopping Alexander from spoiling the whole film once he’s seen it, Alexander joked that Disney will take his dog hostage until he’s “in the ground.”
All in all, it’s heartwarming to see Alexander’s campaign get this kind of traction and we wish him all the best for his Avengers: Endgame screening. For the rest of us, the film will be viewable in cinemas from April 26th.
