In the larger trajectory of the MCU, Spider-Man: Far From Home may not be quite the pivotal, high-stakes affair that Avengers: Endgame and even Captain Marvel look to be, but going by the immediate popularity of the film’s first trailer, it seems that fans are finding more than enough reason to get hyped about Peter Parker’s next solo outing.
Deadline reports that the recent preview garnered more views in its first 24 hours than any other Sony Pictures trailer. Within a day of launching, it managed to rack up a phenomenal 130 million views, comfortably beating the studio’s previous 24-hour record of 116 million that was set by the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer back in 2016.
The Deadline piece goes on to suggest that one significant factor in the trailer’s popularity may have been the recent commercial and critical success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which ensured that the wall-crawler is as big a property as ever right now. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that last year’s Avengers: Infinity War concluded on a notorious cliffhanger that’s got fans very curious to see where Peter’s story goes from here. And between the introduction of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and the tease of various Elementals across Europe, the footage itself also gave people a lot to get excited about.
In any case, it should go without saying that the trailer’s success bodes very well for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which you can expect to have no trouble drawing in crowds when it hits theaters on July 5th, 2019. In the meantime, it’s likely we’ll be seeing Peter in an even bigger movie when Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
