Aquaman Star Jason Momoa Won’t Let Warner Bros. Forget Zack Snyder

From the look of things, the Zack Snyder era for the DCEU came to a close with last year’s commercially disappointing Justice League, and regardless of whether you think his contributions to the superhero saga were for better or worse, there’s no denying that the franchise would be looking very different today without the influence of this distinctive director. For one thing, we’d probably be looking at a different person as the lead in the upcoming Aquaman movie, and actor Jason Momoa continues to show his gratitude for the casting.

In an interview with HuffPost, the former Game of Thrones star was all compliments for the director who first brought him into the DCEU with 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice:

“Really, like, I’m a soul mate with him. He’s family. I’m very indebted to that man. I invited him to my wedding. I told him to look around on my property and the things I barely held onto, because there were moments in my career where you can’t put food on the table. Not being picky and choosy, but it’s hard to make it in this business. I looked at him, and I said, ‘You see these things? These would’ve never, ever, ever have happened if it wasn’t for you.’ So Zack has a huge part of my heart.”

Indeed, Momoa has consistently shown admiration for Snyder, with the actor recently claiming that he had more fun working on Justice League than Aquaman, and has even admitted to being among the fans obsessed with the fabled “Snyder Cut” of last year’s release.

The star has also been reflecting lately on the audition that landed him the role of Arthur Curry. Speaking on This Morning, Momoa explained that he’d been told he was trying out for Batman, but knowing he wasn’t right for the part, the actor offered a performance that was “completely opposite of what you’re supposed to play” as Bruce Wayne. And once Snyder had told him who he’d really auditioned to play, Momoa had to keep his role a secret for two years.

It’s been quite a journey so far for the actor, but Arthur Curry’s big moment in the spotlight is still to come, with Aquaman hitting theaters on December 21st.
