Benedict Cumberbatch Says Being In Avengers: Infinity War Was Unreal

Avengers: Infinity War was released all the way back in April, but Marvel fans are still reeling from the movie event of the year. Not only was it a rollercoaster of excitement as practically every hero in the MCU came together at last, but it also ended on a universe-shattering cliffhanger, with half of the galaxy’s heroes turned to dust.

It’s not just the fans who can’t deal with it, though, but the stars, too. Or at least, Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. The British actor was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and was asked what it was like being part of Infinity War. Cumberbatch admitted that it still feels “unreal” that he got to rub shoulders with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. on the film as well as how astoundingly popular it is.

“It’s amazing. It’s ludicrous. It just gets sort of giddy and unreal, to be honest…I mean, just being part of that franchise is a kick, let alone the people I got to have screen time with and the story that I was sort of part of. I mean, it was really extraordinary to do and even more weird and wonderful to see it roll out and get that kind of reception.”

Cumberbatch’s role in Infinity War is one of those that fans have analyzed to death since the movie came out. As Strange peered into countless possible versions of the future, it’s believed he knows exactly what has to happen for the Avengers to beat Thanos, which is why he hands over the Time Stone to the Mad Titan so readily and seems to go peacefully when he’s turned to dust.

Countless theories have been spawned from his actions in the film and we’ll find out if Strange knew what he was doing when Avengers 4 arrives in May. Before then, though, we should get our first look at Avengers: Infinity War‘s much-anticipated sequel later this month, when the first trailer debuts, apparently attached to a football game.
