Halloween Director Is Saving This Character For The Sequel

We’re going to be talking Halloween spoilers off the bat here, so if you’re among the few who haven’t yet seen this massive horror hit, then consider yourself warned.

The spoiler alert seems especially necessary since director David Gordon Green’s movie went distinctly against cliché when it gave leading lady Allyson a boyfriend but didn’t end up killing him off. In fact, the young Cameron practically disappears halfway through the film, but with a sequel feeling inevitable at this point, Green’s hinted that the love interest could have more stories to come.

In an interview with Collider, the filmmaker teased that “There’s some ideas for him for later.” When pressed further, Green offered the following info on Dylan Arnold’s character:

“But do you see the allusion to him and who he his? We refer to his father being Lonnie who was the young kid from the original film. There’s ideas for him. There was more stuff of him and we decided to hold back and see what we could use later.”

For those who haven’t recently brushed up on their minor slasher movie characters, Lonnie’s a kid in the classic 1978 original who teases the young Tommy Doyle about the boogeyman coming to get him. But while Tommy would grow up to be Paul Rudd in 1995’s Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, his old bully hasn’t been seen since.

It’s therefore unclear what significance Cameron’s family connections could have, but if a report from a couple of weeks ago is anything to go by, Green won’t be the one to flesh out this character further, since it was said that neither he nor his co-writer Danny McBride are involved in the sequel.

In any case, with Halloween out now in cinemas and unlikely to leave theaters anytime soon, perhaps the clues for Cameron’s future are there for you to find.
