Chris Evans Says The Last Captain America Line He Filmed For Avengers 4 Was Really Dumb

It’s been a touchy-feely few weeks over on the Marvel end of Twitter, as Chris Evans has received an outpouring of tributes from both fans and his fellow colleagues.

Of course, this is all because the Avengers 4 actor took to social media the other week to announce that he’s now finished his reshoots for the upcoming sequel to Infinity War, bringing his eight-year run as the First Avenger to a close. The full message from Evans read as follows:

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.

In the wake of this heartfelt tweet, many fans have been speculating as to how next May’s film may bring Cap’s story to its end, and while he’s keeping his mouth shut on that particular topic, Evans did tell the crowd at ACE Comic Con today that the last line he filmed in character wasn’t particularly memorable.

Of course, he wouldn’t give any specifics, but did say the following:

“It was something really stupid, it was something really dumb. Which I also probably can’t give away.”

When pressed for more details, he’d only say that the line was directed at Ant-Man, telling the crowd:

“Well, you know, it was reshoots, so you’re doing these little picks and pops, and it’s just little things that they need,” Evans explained. “It might have been a line to Paul Rudd. He wasn’t there, but it was a stupid line. The line wasn’t memorable to me [laughs]. The day was more memorable than the line.”

That was all Evans had to offer, but it’s important to remember that this particular piece of dialogue wasn’t necessarily his final line in Avengers 4 itself. As he mentions, it was spoken during reshoots and it’s likely he was just filming a scene from earlier on in the film that needed to be reshot for whatever reason.

Still, it’s a shame that he didn’t get to go out on a high, though we fully expect for the sequel to Infinity War to serve as a passing of the torch, as Phase 1 heroes like Evans and Chris Hemsworth seemingly bow out of the series. And we’ll see exactly how Avengers 4 plans to make this transition to the next era of superhero cinema when it hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
