While everyone at Foxney/Disnox (they’re essentially one entity now, so we might as well smush the names together, right?) is playing coy about the characters belonging to the formerly independent studio joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let’s be real: we all know it’s a matter of when, and not if, at this point.
Though people associated with X-Men and the upcoming Dark Phoenix have at times expressed excitement at playing with Iron Man and Thor, star Sophie Turner isn’t so sure it’d work. While speaking at the New York Comic Con, the actress was asked about the possibility of starring alongside the barely present physically these days Robert Downey Jr. and all of the Chrises and expressed a surprising level of awareness in regards to the inconsistency of the Marvel comics universe, which most actors don’t often bother to weigh in on.
Here’s what she had to say:
“I don’t know. I feel the complexities of the X-Men being shunned by society and segregated is not something that happens in the Avengers universe. Of course, I want to see them crossover but I don’t think the themes through X-Men will collaborate well with the Avengers. It’ll be very different. If they do it, I’d love to see how it turns out.”
Honestly, this is so true. When you think about it, the hatred of Marvel’s mutants doesn’t really make sense in the context of the broader universe. I mean, why do people shriek in fear at the X-Men but then lose their ever-loving minds with delight when Spider-Man or the Avengers come in and save the day? Obviously I’m nitpicking here, but really, it’s quite absurd.
Who knows, though, maybe when the characters all come home someone will have the sense to keep the mutants contained in their own stories? I know the Fantastic Four would fit into the MCU, but not the rest. Regardless, it’ll certainly be interesting to see where the property goes after X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
