Kevin Feige Addresses The Possibility Of Recasting Marvel’s Heroes

The future of the MCU is currently shrouded in mystery and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige might be the only one who knows where it’s all headed, which is a shame because the guy’s notoriously good at keeping a lid on things – an anti-Tom Holland, if you will.

Just take Feige’s answer to a recent question on the possibility of recasting actors, for instance. When The Costco Connection asked the producer what happens when one of the franchise’s major stars is ready to move on to something new, Feige’s response was both fairly interesting and devilishly vague.

“That’s what we can look to in the comics. And that’s why these characters are so relevant. I talk about 10 years of movies, but it’s 50-plus years of these characters in the comics. And they’re just as relevant and popular. And that’s because they do get updated. they do change with the times. I have no doubt that all of our actors, who are in peak physical shape, have got another 50 years in them to be heroes. In terms of the specifics of how we will evolve the characters, thankfully I don’t have to really think about it yet. ‘Cause we’re still finishing what we started here with Avengers: Infinity War.”

While you could certainly argue that there are fewer complications in the comic books, since writers don’t have to worry about managing a set of constantly ageing actors, it’s certainly not unheard of for new characters to step in and assume the titles of pre-established heroes. In fact, Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is already serving as an excellent demonstration of how superhero films can afford to be flexible on these matters, with the animated flick featuring Peter Parker as just one of numerous renditions of the web-slinger.

But like Feige said, perhaps this isn’t something we need to be thinking about yet. After all, Marvel still needs to wrap up the latest Phase of the series, while likely giving some of the franchise’s current stars a heroic send-off. In other words, expect big things when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
