While the success of the Deadpool franchise is indeed no secret, it may shock you to learn that the wearer of “the big red body condom” – otherwise known as Ryan Reynolds – isn’t too sure if the foul-mouthed mercenary will be getting a third installment.
I mean, after seeing Deadpool 2 earn nearly $320 million at the domestic box office in 2018, not to mention well over $700 million worldwide – despite occupying the most hazardous window of release ever, mind you – naturally, you’d assume the logical next step for Wade Wilson would be Deadpool 3, right? Well, according to the Merc with a Mouth himself, it’d be a stretch of the imagination at best.
Early on during the press junket for David Leitch’s R-rated farce, Reynolds revealed that he didn’t know if “there would be a Deadpool 3.” And although since then the pride of Vancouver, British Columbia has expressed a varying degree of openness toward a threequel, the latest intel on the matter is that Reynolds doesn’t think it’ll happen.
That said, judging by the latest teaser for Deadpool: The Complete Collection – which you can check out below – we might just be getting a trilogy capper after all.
As most of you are probably aware, Deadpool 2 hit your preferred digital platform on August 7th and is scheduled to complete the journey to home video this coming Tuesday. However, if the new tagline for the home release is to be believed – “The Complete Collection…For Now” – you might be better off waiting for the entire trilogy to hit Blu-ray.
According to the Deadpool: The Complete Collection promo, while you’ll undoubtedly be getting “double me in one small, easy to hold package,” there’s no guarantee that the motion picture combo won’t expand in the future and give birth to a third outing for the Merc with a Mouth. And though this cheeky tagline is far from confirmation of such a thing happening, we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a threequel announced sooner rather than later.
