‘It really could not happen to a better person’: Rosario Dawson ‘stoked’ for Dave Filoni’s ‘Star Wars’ movie

It’s almost been four years since The Rise of Skywalker, and Star Wars has been a stranger to the silver screen ever since. Sure, the franchise fires have been kept burning by excellent Disney Plus shows like The Mandalorian and Andor, but we’re craving a full-on theatrical experience.

Thankfully, after many false starts, there are several projects coming down the line, including a new movie picking up Rey’s story set some years after The Rise of Skywalker, a film about the very earliest Jedi from James Mangold, and a project from Dave Filoni said to wrap up the Mandoverse Disney Plus shows and lead into The Force Awakens.

Ahsoka Tano will almost certainly be a big part of that, and we’ll get an idea of where her story is going when Ahsoka begins on August 23. Star Rosario Dawson will likely star in the movie, but right now she just sounds happy for Filoni that he’s got this top directing job, as she revealed to ComicBook:

“I’m just so happy he got it. Honestly, my uncle is a comic book artist. That is not the average transition coming from animation and going into directing, and especially a film. For all the nerds, I think for the cons and stuff, this is just like, ‘Ah!’ kind of status. So, I’m just super stoked for him because it really could not happen to a better person. He’s so talented and remarkable and awesome, and I love him. And I think what he learned in doing in animation, he’s blowing out of the water in directing and live action. So, I’m, as a fan, excited to watch that movie, whether I’m in it or not.”

It’s worth remembering that this won’t be Filoni’s first time directing a theatrical Star Wars release. He helmed 2008’s animated Clone Wars movie, which opened to some of the worst reviews the franchise has ever seen, and was a box office disappointment.

We’re prepared to cut him some slack on that, as George Lucas decided it’d be a theatrical release at the last minute. Plus, the Dave Filoni of 2008 has far less experience than Dave Filoni now. We’re still hopeful that one day he’ll take the top job at Lucasfilm and steer the entire franchise, as there are few people with as much love for a galaxy far, far away as him.
