Horror fans celebrate the rare franchises that dodged the curse of diminishing returns

If there’s one thing that horror fans are more cognizant of than anyone, it’s that too much of a good thing can quickly become a bad thing. Indeed, over the years we’ve had too much of a good thing in space, Manhattan, Hell, and toe-to-toe with Freddy, and too much of a good thing written and directed by Rob Zombie, just to name a few.

But not every horror franchise falls victim to diminishing returns. For every slasher icon that ends up sputtering out on a lackluster sixth or seventh film, there’s a saga that has at least managed to stay on both feet for just as long, and the folks over at r/horror are handing out gold medals to those that have stood the test of time, as well as the soulless hurdle of corporate involvement.
