Tom Holland Reportedly In Talks For Another MCU Spider-Man Trilogy

Tom Holland is widely considered the best live-action Spider-Man to date. Since he made his debut in Captain America: Civil War he’s become a firm fan favorite, as proved by the massive outcry in 2019 when it seemed his stint in the MCU was up. Over Homecoming and Far From Home he developed this Spidey, played a key role in Infinity War and Endgame, and anticipation is high for this winter’s No Way Home.

But we’ve previously heard that No Way Home might be his last. Holland has said his contract ends with it, hinting at pursuing new opportunities while admitting he’d come back if asked. Zendaya also struck a worrying note, saying that the mood on set was sad as they suspected it was their last time together playing these characters.

Now it seems that there’s light on the horizon. Giant Freakin Robot is reporting that their “trusted and proven” sources have told them Kevin Feige and Tom Holland have discussed plans for a further Spider-Man MCU trilogy. This is, of course, contingent on another agreement with Sony Pictures to use Spidey, which may mean another few rounds of tense legal brinkmanship.

After No Way Home, it might be a smart idea for Spidey to take a short break before returning in Phase 5. This would give the cast space to explore other roles and, when they return, show the stories of them in their twenties. Miles Morales is going to end up in the MCU sooner or later and I’d love to see Holland’s character finally transitioning from pupil to mentor and passing down his skills.

Another consequence could be that the MCU gets closer to Sony’s Venom universe, potentially through some kind of multiversal crossover.

Either way, if this story pans out, the future of the MCU is once again Spider-Man-shaped.
