While Walter White and Breaking Bad may’ve met their end in 2013, the series left behind a permanent mark on pop culture. And its legacy has only grown in size and importance ever since 2015 with the impressive, if not quite as good spinoff show Better Call Saul.
But late last year, we heard that a Breaking Bad movie was in the works, with creator Vince Gilligan set to write and direct Jesse Pinkman’s new Walter-less adventure. And though that news sent the internet into a meltdown, there hasn’t been much else to report on since then. Until now, that is.
After revealing the release date and plot outline for the pic earlier today, Netflix surprised us all by also dropping the first trailer for what they’ve titled El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Premiering on October 11th, we don’t see much footage here, but the preview shows us Skinny Pete being interrogated by the police as they want to know where Jesse Pinkman is.
For more, here’s that aforementioned summary:
“The Netflix Television Event El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie reunites fans with Jesse Pinkman (Emmy-winner Aaron Paul). In the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future,” Netflix said in a statement. “This gripping thriller is written and directed by Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad. The movie is produced by Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein, Charles Newirth, Diane Mercer and Aaron Paul, in association with Sony Pictures Television.”
Unfortunately, we don’t yet know which of Pinkman’s co-stars may be joining him in El Camino, but Bryan Cranston has already voiced his interest in returning as Walter White (perhaps via flashback?). Though at the moment, there’s no confirmation on whether that’ll happen or not.
In any case, with the cat now out of the bag and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie finally revealed to the world, you can expect to learn more ahead of its premiere this fall. But until then, tell us, do you think Gilligan’s masterpiece will translate well into a feature film? Let us know in the usual place below.
