Disney, more than usual, seems to be dominating the internet lately. The reasons range from controversial to roaringly good, but we’re here to give you some of the latter.
The first trailer for the live-action remake of Mulan has hit the web today and with it, some of our favorite things: fan reactions. Unlike the pot-stirring casting of Halle Bailey (nope, still not Berry), fans of the original Mulan are in for a controversy-less treat. The fact that Mushu, hopefully still being voiced by Kevin Hart, wasn’t present is sure to kick up a little dust, but overall, this is a clean little teaser that sticks to the original animated tale. And the fans seems to agree.

*REMAINS EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE*— Katie Butts (@GoodyButts) July 7, 2019
i wanna HATE the Mulan remake but the way she twiddles her sword with her hair flowing in the wind? it looks god tier and I'm so upset that bisexual king Shang isn't there or Mushu and Cricket but let's be honest I'll be spending all my money on that masterpiece #Mulan pic.twitter.com/ouHnDxq18I

You and me both, Jared. You and me both.
The reports that Li Shang won’t be in the remake already made waves last year when the news broke and there’ll be no doubt even more motion in that ocean before the film’s 2020 release. After all, Disney gave us an unintentional hero to the bisexual community with their 1998 animated hit, with many fans pointing out how Shang looked at Mulan the same way he looked at Ping, her male alter-ego.
From what we understand, the story is set to somewhat follow the original, with the exception of a few things. For one, Mulan will go by Hua Jun when she poses as a man, not Ping. And instead of getting the hots for Shang, she’ll fall in love with rival soldier Chen Honghui, played by Yoson An. Taking Shang’s place (only as commander), meanwhile, will be Commander Tung, played by Donnie Yen. And what epic tale about a young Chinese maiden would be complete without Jet Li, who’ll star as the Emperor.
