Avengers: Endgame helped clear up much of the mystery over who was snapped by Thanos in the previous movie, Avengers: Infinity War, but there are still many MCU characters whose statuses remain unknown. Like Everett Ross, for example. Did the U.S. Government agent and pal of the Black Panther get blipped for five years? Here’s what star Martin Freeman had to say about it.
To the best of Freeman’s knowledge, he thinks Ross survived the Snap. The actor, who joined the Marvel universe back in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War before following it up with 2017’s Black Panther, told UPROXX that no one’s told him otherwise.
“I think so, yeah. No, no one’s told me that he died.”
Freeman’s previously confirmed that he’ll be back as Ross to help save Wakanda again in Black Panther 2 and while chatting with UPROXX, also gave an update as to when he expects production to kick off on the highly-anticipated sequel, guessing that it won’t be for another couple of years yet.
“The last I heard, we won’t be doing it next year. So, it might be 2021 when we’re making the next Black Panther. That’s all I know.”
This makes a lot of sense with what we know. Black Panther 2 isn’t part of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate of movies coming in 2020 or 2021, but Kevin Feige’s tease at Comic-Con suggested it’ll be one of the first films in Phase 5. So, shooting in 2021, for a release date somewhere in 2022 adds up. Previous rumors have pointed to it dropping in February of that year, much as the first film released in February of 2017. Seeing as that one broke box office records, it stands to reason that Marvel would repeat this slot for the sequel.
Not much is known about Black Panther 2 at the moment, but it looks like it’ll reunite most of the cast from the last outing – possibly including Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger (somehow). Namor may make his MCU debut in the sequel, too. If that’s the case, no doubt Everett Ross will have his mind blown again by discovering the existence of an underwater kingdom.
