The CW’s superhero line-up is expected to undergo some serious changes after the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” – most notably, Arrow will be coming to an end after eight seasons. Though it’s not officially part of the Arrowverse, fellow DC show Black Lightning could also be in danger, even if it’s already been renewed for a third season.
We told you a few months back that The CW is considering bringing the axe down on Black Lightning after its next run due to low ratings. This isn’t too hard to believe, either, as it’s common knowledge that it hasn’t been pulling in terribly strong numbers lately. And though nothing is official just yet, we’re now hearing that even if it does come to an end, it may not be the last we see of the hero.
According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Warner Bros. is eager to have more black superheroes in the DCEU and among the many characters they’re hoping to throw into the franchise is Black Lightning.
From what we understand, Cress Williams – who plays him on The CW show – would not reprise the role and the hero would exist in the new continuity of the DCEU. If you’ll recall, we recently brought you the news that the DCEU will soon be split into two, with the old continuity encompassing Aquaman, Wonder Woman and some of the older heroes, while films like The Batman, Supergirl and more will take place in the new continuity, so as to keep them separate.
Further details are unclear at this early, early stage, but from the sounds of it, WB is eager to have Black Lightning in the DCEU and though there’s no word on who may play him or even when we’ll see him up on the big screen, we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
