Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Would’ve Loved To Play Deadpool

While it may have been eclipsed by the success of Avengers: Endgame, DC’s Shazam! was no slouch in its own right. David F. Sandberg’s take on the 80-year-old superhero was praised for its lighthearted tone and sense of fun, with our very own Matt Donato calling it “hilarious” and “heartfelt” in his review. Critics and fans alike were particularly fond of Zachary Levi’s performance as the eponymous character, and since a sequel is already in development, there’s a good chance moviegoers will get to see Levi on the big screen again.

Since the film’s release, fans have had a myriad of questions about Zachary’s career and last weekend, the actor made an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, where he hosted his own panel, which featured a Q&A session with convention-goers. During the event, the star of Chuck answered a ton of questions from the audience, even going so far as to reveal he had more fun working with DC than he did Marvel – some of you might remember that he played Fandral the Dashing in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.

One fan pointed out Levi had done work for both DC and Marvel and asked what villain he’d like to play in each of the studio’s respective cinematic universes. In an interesting twist, he revealed he’d have loved the chance to suit up as the Merc with a Mouth.

“I’ve said may times before that Deadpool was my favorite villain in the Marvel universe,” Levi explained. “He’s now an anti-hero, I understand that, but not when I found him. He was definitely a villain back then, and I would love to play Deadpool. Except Ryan’s been doing that very, very astutely,” he added.

While there’s a good chance Zachary won’t be landing a role in any potential sequel, he could make an appearance on the proposed animated series. Still, we’d love to see him in a future Deadpool movie, should the opportunity arise.
