Annihilation Will Be The MCU’s Next Big Storyline

With Avengers: Endgame wrapped up, and Spider-Man: Far From Home on the way, fans have some questions. Among them are, what is the MCU‘s next big cinematic storyline, and when are we going to see it? Earth’s (former) Mightiest Heroes had 11 years and 22 movies leading up to their endgame. Now, we’re more than ready for the next journey to start.

But what will it be? Well, We Got This Covered has been informed by a source that the next big storyline for the MCU will be none other than Annihilation, while Annihilus, obviously, will be the big bad. Unfortunately, however, we’re being told that this is something Marvel is slowly building towards and won’t really fully come into play until Phase 5 or so. Similar to how it took the franchise a while to build up to Thanos and the Infinity Stones. And in between now and then, we’ll apparently be meeting Norman Osborn (who’ll be the next big bad of the franchise, before Annihilus) and seeing more from the Skrulls.

Phase 4, meanwhile, will continue the adventures of Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and apparently, even Captain Britain. Only time will tell if any of those characters will stick around for the next two Phases to fight Annihilus, but if the comics hold any clues, most of the heroes and villains in the arc were those who we typically see battling in outer space. So that’d be Star-Lord, Thanos, Gamora, the Skrulls, Drax, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Ronan the Accuser, etc. All of them and more were involved in the battle against Annihilus, but seeing how some of them are now dead or not around in the current MCU timeline, it’ll be interesting to watch how Marvel pulls the Annihilation storyline off.

This news raises so many more questions as well. For one, will we see the rumored New Avengers assemble at the same time that Annihilus is ravaging the galaxy? His goal was similar to Thanos’, except the former wanted to end all life in the universe, instead of the latter’s goal of halfsies. As such, we might need more than the almost 60 heroes we saw in Avengers: Endgame to thwart his plan. Thank goodness Spidey’s been to space, eh?

Tell us, what are you hoping to see in the future of the MCU? Is the Annihilation storyline something you’ve been waiting for? Head on down to the comments section and share your thoughts.
