What’s Next For The MCU After Avengers: Endgame?

While Avengers: Endgame lived up to its name as the concluding entry in Marvel’s 22-movie Infinity Saga, it’s long been clear that the MCU still has a good few years left in it. In fact, there are already at least eight further films that we know to be on the way.

As it stands, the only post-Endgame project that Marvel Studios has officially announced is Spider-Man: Far From Home, which will see Tom Holland’s un-dusted web-slinger find an unlikely partner in Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. After that, it’s expected that Marvel’s Phase 4 will begin next year with the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie, which is looking more than likely to be an origin story.

What’s more, Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals will reportedly begin filming later this year, with Angelina Jolie said to be in talks for a role. At the same time, Ryan Coogler is set to helm Black Panther 2, which could be with us as soon as 2021, while Scott Derrickson is also on board to direct Doctor Strange 2.

Another film that seems on course for Phase 4 is Shang-Chi, with Marvel recently enlisting Short Term 12 director Destin Daniel Cretton for the project. And with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reportedly scheduled to begin production in early 2021, we may have to wait until 2022 before we find out how James Gunn plans to follow through on the various changes teased in Avengers: Endgame.

Lastly, one project that we know next to nothing about but feels pretty inevitable is Captain Marvel 2, which Kevin Feige has hinted might be another period film that picks up where the first left off.

So, that’s what the MCU’s next few years apparently look like, and it all begins with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2nd.
