Avengers: Endgame may well be one of the biggest movies of our lifetime.
Return of the King, Mockingjay – Part 2, and Deathly Hallows – Part 2 were all special film finales in their own right, but in terms of scale and scope, Endgame is, quite frankly, in a league of its own. Just ask Brie Larson.
The Captain Marvel actress and all-around MCU newbie is due to make her ensemble debut later this month, and it’s fair to say she found Avengers: Endgame to be a totally different experience than her 90s-set spinoff. For one, the production of Endgame was at times so secretive, Larson wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, as much like everyone else on set whose name didn’t end with ‘Russo’, she was kept firmly in the dark.
I flew to Atlanta for my first day on Endgame. I had no idea what I was shooting, what the movie was. I didn’t know if anybody else was in a scene with me. I didn’t know anything. And it’s not until you show up that you get your pages for the day. But you only get your part. So it was like a scene that was completely black redacted, and then just my one line. I’m very excited to talk about this once the movie is out, because I can’t give the details away.
Beyond a general outline of the plot, Brie Larson was totally oblivious to what was happening around her, which isn’t all that surprising when you remember that most of Endgame‘s indoor scenes were likely filmed on bare sound stages equipped with floor-to-ceiling green screens. The real magic is added in post, including the Tesseract–empowered photon blasts that will no doubt be flying out of Captain Marvel’s outstretched hands when Avengers: Endgame opens big on April 26th.
How big, you ask? Try $282 million in its opening weekend.
