Avengers: Endgame Star Josh Brolin Reveals How Many Films He’s Contracted For

For the past year, the internet has theorized and debated over the matter of who will and won’t die in Avengers: Endgame, but the one character whose demise many fans have taken for granted is Thanos.

While filmgoers still have a couple more days to find out if they’ve assumed correctly, it certainly makes sense that the Mad Titan won’t be around for the MCU’s next era. After all, Endgame is the concluding entry in the Infinity Saga, and as the Infinity Saga’s main antagonist, you can pretty much guarantee that things are about to go very badly for the purple conqueror.

Nonetheless, the MCU has quite a few characters who’ve lasted longer than most of us would’ve predicted, and so, in an interview with Variety, the question was raised of how many more films Josh Brolin is signed up for.

“10. For the next 10 years, doing one a year,” the actor joked. “Kevin Feige, by the way, you hear that? No, I’m good. I’m on a one movie to one movie basis so we’ll see what happens after this movie.”

Thanos is such a popular villain that you couldn’t blame Marvel for wanting to bring him back for Phase 4, but like Brolin said, he’s under no contractual obligation. If Endgame really is the end of the line for the Mad Titan, however, the star seems to have enjoyed his run in the MCU.

“It’s fun, man. The thing is, I thought it was like a voice-over, and it’s not. Everything was practical,” Brolin noted. “Every scene was with everybody who I had scenes with. They got the little idiosyncrasies, which were all stuff that we created, and it’s a character who turned out to be sympathetic that nobody thought would be sympathetic and that was really nice. It turned into a multi-dimensional character and nobody thought it was supposed to be.”

Speaking of contracts, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth have all admitted that the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is the last film they’ve signed up for, prompting many fans to predict that this week’s release will serve as each star’s final outing.

That being said, Tessa Thompson recently claimed that another Thor movie has been pitched, so perhaps Phase 4 will still feature at least one of Marvel’s Phase 1 Trinity. Either way, we’ll likely have a much better idea of who’s staying on for the next era when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
