Avengers: Endgame Referenced Captain Britain, But No One Noticed

Avengers: Endgame is certainly not short on easter eggs, as it calls back to past movies in the MCU, references various comic book stories and also drops hints at future heroes to come. There’s one that most people missed, though, as it’s both a nod to a relatively obscure Marvel hero and is very difficult to make out.

When Steve Rogers travels back to Camp Lehigh in 1970, he catches a glimpse of his lost love Peggy Carter through an office window. She’s oblivious to him though, as she’s currently having a discussion with a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. It’s hard to make out what Peggy’s saying here, but Reddit user u/droideka75 (with help from u/wolfthang88, who detected the reference through a closed caption device) has noted that she mentions an incident involving some supernatural phenomena that was “not lightning” and that an agent named “Braddock” hasn’t checked in.

Obviously, this has to be a sneaky reference to Brian Braddock AKA Captain Britain. Fans have been asking for Marvel to give England its own superhero in the MCU for a while now and it looks like the filmmakers behind Endgame responded by dropping this nod to the character, hinting that he’s out there in the universe somewhere.

But is this a hint that Brian Braddock is coming to the franchise soon? Well, it’s not totally out of the question, though Marvel may have decided to explore a different British hero instead. Following rumors that he was due to appear in Endgame, we reported earlier this month that the studio has big plans for Black Knight and could be giving him his own movie trilogy. If this is the case, it could open up the opportunity for multiple Brit heroes, so maybe Cap’n Blighty will get his due.

Tell us, though, did you spot this Captain Britain easter egg in Avengers: Endgame? And were there any other references you noticed that no one else did? Join the conversation in the comments section down below.
