Avengers: Endgame Directors Reveal That The Film’s Now 100% Locked

There’s less than three weeks to go now until Avengers: Endgame arrives in cinemas and the Russo brothers have finally wrapped up work on what’s no doubt been a monumentally mammoth task. At an Endgame press junket in Los Angeles last night (April 6th), the Russos revealed that, though they had just one last VFX shot to complete, the movie is now “100% locked.”

Collider’s Steven Weintraub was in attendance and reported the news on Twitter, saying the following:

The @Russo_Brothers finished #AvengersEndgame last night on the @DisneyStudios lot. They had a few last VFX to get done. But the movie is now 100% locked.

The directors have been wrapped up with Endgame for a long time now, with filming beginning in summer 2017, and even that was right on the back of Avengers: Infinity War‘s six-month shoot. So it really has been a huge commitment to tell the story that will hopefully end the first decade of the MCU in style.

As a sign of how the Russos have been tinkering with the movie right up to the last minute, at first sites were listing the length of Endgame as 3 hours and 2 minutes. The directors then revealed that they’d brought that number down to 3 hours and 58 seconds instead. That doesn’t sound like much, but it goes to show how they’re dedicated to making their movie as perfect as possible. Even if Joe Russo joked that they managed to do that by just speeding up the credits.

The directors seem confident that their time and effort will pay off, too, as Joe’s also teased that he expects even “bigger water cooler talk” with Endgame than we saw with Infinity War, which became a huge cultural milestone last year. It sounds like we should be prepared for some serious drama and heartbreak, then. After all, what could inspire more chat than half the Marvel universe dying?

The death of one of the OG heroes, perhaps? Maybe, but we’ll find out for sure when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters later this month, on April 26th.
