As the biggest blockbuster event of 2019, you can bet that Disney is sparing no expense in fine-tuning Avengers: Endgame for public consumption. And so long as there’s still time for directors Anthony and Joe Russo to make adjustments, it sounds like the pair have been taking advantage of the stars and the resources and their disposal.
Principal photography on the Avengers: Infinity War sequel began back in August of 2017, and in a new interview with Empire, actress Karen Gillan revealed that she’d shot some scenes as recently as two weeks prior:
“My last day was two weeks ago. They keep doing reshoots. We call it ‘The Infinity Movie.’ It just never ends. I think we’re going to be at the premiere and they’re going to be playing it and we’ll act the last scene live, because they won’t have finished it.”
While fans have a tendency to hear the word “reshoots” and get worried, we’re not really seeing anything to panic about here. After all, reshoots are a normal part of any production, and for a project as huge as Endgame, Disney can afford to be fussy with their final cut.
Regardless, it looks like the period for shooting footage has more or less come to a close, with the Russo Brothers announcing earlier this month that the film is now locked. While an official runtime has yet to be revealed, the directors have hinted in the past that the movie could end up being as long as 3 hours, in which case, you couldn’t really blame them for doing a lot of reshoots.
As for Gillan, the actress mentioned in her interview with Empire that she thinks Nebula will be “a character we’re all rooting for,” and to get a little more specific, Gillan also told People last year that Thanos’ adopted daughter will “confront some serious daddy issues” in next month’s release. Beyond that, details on Nebula’s arc are in short supply, but we’ll find out what’s in store for the Guardians of the Galaxy regular when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
