Anthony Daniels’ Cryptic Star Wars: Episode IX Tweet Has Been Deciphered

With the Star Wars: Episode IX shoot having recently wrapped, fans are getting antsy about when we’re going to get our first real look at the closing entry in Disney’s Sequel Trilogy. With radio silence from Lucasfilm, many have latched onto C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels’ Twitter account, which has been sending out enigmatic messages that a lot of folks have assumed might be teasing the release of the first trailer.

Here’s the tweet that set tongues wagging:

“IX SPOILER … NOT…TITLE …NOT …TRAILER NOT….. IMPORTANT… IS… NOT QUITE SURE… LOOKS LIKE OLD CODE….. D EG HTTOIUNAI DM ENALILON ETCT T NTCW AL TDOEEIGBI LR BHCNHNOAG AI AICNIEE…. REMEMBER… YOU ARE YOUR ONLY HOPE TILL… COMS FAILING… WEAK SIGNAL… INCO”

Something like this is catnip to information-starved Star Wars fans. Given that Episode IX might well be Daniels’ last time playing C-3PO, it’s just about plausible that Disney and Lucasfilm might let him have a little fun with the film’s promotional work, and maybe he really does know something we don’t. Sadly, however, the truth has proven to be somewhat underwhelming.

Redditor _Heart_of_Darkness tried a number of cyphers before eventually realizing that it was actually just an anagram. The coded message turned out to be:

“I AM DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT I WILL BE ATTENDING CELEBRATION IN CHICAGO”

Of course, this is good news for C-3PO fans in Chicago, but perhaps less relevant for the rest of us. Then again, we may very well see the first trailer for the film drop at SWC this year. It runs from April 11th through April 15th and notably, Avengers: Endgame hits theaters soon after that.

Disney may want to get the Star Wars: Episode IX trailer out in front of the Infinity War sequel to ensure it gets the maximum amount of eyeballs on it. Or, more predictably, they could wait until May 4th – Star Wars Day – to finally drop it. In any case, we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
