Kevin Hart Reportedly Voicing Mushu In Disney’s Mulan Remake

One of many live-action remakes coming from Disney over the next few years is Mulan, a reboot of the classic 1998 animated movie based on the Chinese legend. The film from Niki Caro already wrapped production back in November 2018, but one key role has yet to be cast: Mushu, the loveable diminutive dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy in the original.

The DisInsider has it, though, that the Mouse House has a firm top choice for the voice role and that’s Kevin Hart. The site says that “multiple sources” have informed them that the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star is Disney’s favorite to play Mulan’s sidekick, though they note that the studio’s still looking at other actors at this stage and is taking their time narrowing the list down.

It’s easy to see why Hart is Disney’s number one choice for Mushu, as his comic stylings would make him a perfect replacement for Murphy – though fans of the old movie will likely wonder why they can’t simply get the actor back, just as James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Mufasa in this summer’s The Lion King

While Hart isn’t yet confirmed, the cast is already full of talent. Liu Yifei’s bringing warrior woman Hua Mulan to life, with Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Lee Scott as villain Bori Khan (in place of Shan Yu) and Jet Li as the Emperor. Yoson An, meanwhile, plays Chen Hoghou, Mulan’s new love interest who replaces Li Shang from the first film, a switch that’s already made some fans unhappy.

Mulan, which isn’t expected to be a musical, will get down to business and arrive in theaters on March 27th, 2020, and as soon as we get some confirmation on Hart, we’ll be sure to let you know.
