Shazam! Star Zachary Levi Says Henry Cavill’s Still Superman

Though Henry Cavill may not be ready yet to talk openly about his future in the DCEU (or possible lack thereof), Shazam! lead Zachary Levi at least had some encouraging words to say about the actor, arguing that while we haven’t seen Cavill’s version of Clark Kent on our screens for a while now, the Justice League star is still our Superman.

The subject came up in an interview with Collider after Levi remarked that there’s a feeling of job security that comes with playing a title character. When Collider provided the counterexample of Cavill, Levi made the case that the actor can still lay claim to the Superman title.

“Well, but he’s still Superman. He’s still Superman. Just because they haven’t gotten around to making another standalone Superman movie, doesn’t mean he’s still not Superman and doesn’t mean he’s still not killing it as Superman. Doesn’t mean everybody doesn’t still love him as Superman, right?”

It’s unclear whether Levi knows much more about Cavill’s situation than we do, but at the very least, the star seems to be under the impression that the Man of Steel isn’t about to be recast.

As you may recall, last year saw a number of reports come out alleging that Cavill had exited from the role of Superman. The rumor proved so prevalent that Aquaman lead Jason Momoa even felt the need to shoot it down, telling Entertainment Tonight that his Justice League co-star is “absolutely not” finished with the franchise and that he “loves the character.”

Regardless, Warner Bros. has yet to announce another Superman project, and the recent silence from both the studio and Cavill suggests that the two camps may still have some issues to work out. In the meantime, rumors around the character continue to make the rounds, including the claim that Clark Kent could be making a cameo in Shazam! Granted, it may be a long shot, but we’ll find out if there’s any truth to the hearsay when the film hits theaters on April 5th, 2019.
